A DEAL HAS BEEN DONE IN COPENHAGEN, ADMINISTRATION CLAIMS

World leaders reach agreement that provides for a means to monitor and verify emission cuts by developing countries but has less ambitious climate targets than the U.S. and European governments had initially sought, according to an Obama administration official.

Barack Obama is in Copenhagen now with hopes of doing better in Copenhagen this time than he did the last when he failed to snag his hometown for the Olympics. The climate change Olympics is far more difficult with many players involving real money and controversial policy shifts.
BBC reports that a DEAL WILL BE DONE.
Obama is putting up some money–contributing to a $100 billion fund, far less than the $400 billion demanded by African states who are the greatest victim of the excesses of others.
AP was reporting:
COPENHAGEN – World leaders worked into the early morning hours to forge a political declaration for Friday’s summit on climate change, a document expected to envision emissions-cutting targets for rich nations and billions for poor countries but to fall well short of the goal of a legally binding pact.
A political deal would be seen by many as a setback, following two years of intense negotiations to agree on deeper reductions in the emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases largely blamed for global warming. [More here →]
