Was Lou Dobbs Really Shot At? Surveillance Societies, Why We Love Jon Stewart, Media News

Alternet: Was CNN Host Lou Dobbs Really Shot at?

After CNN host Lou Dobbs stated this past Monday on his
radio show that “my wife has now been and I have been
shot at,” right-wing pundits and nativist groups are
rallying to his cause.

Dobbs’ discussion of the alleged shooting incident,
which had occurred three weeks prior to the October 26
broadcast of the Lou Dobbs show, included mention of
both longtime critic and FOX host Geraldo Rivera and
the immigrant advocacy organizations calling for his
removal from CNN including the National Council of La
Raza, America’s Voice and other “ethnocentric interest
groups.”

OBAMA ORGANIZER DAVID PLOUFFE ON FOX NEWS (POLITICO)

David Plouffe took several hard shots at Fox News on Sunday, saying it became “a 24-hour propaganda McCain channel really in the last 60 days.”

The campaign manager for Barack Obama’s ’08 bid, appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,’ said that the network’s “average viewership in primetime about 2.5 million,” or about 2 percent of the total turnout in last year’s presidential election, and that ‘”I think sometimes we overstate” their influence.

“The audience itself is quite moderate,” said Plouffe, who stressed that “the danger is that what Fox advocates becomes embraced by [other] media” and that “we have to put a spotlight on some of the irresponsibility coming out of that network,” is then treated as straight news.

When that happens, he said, “we have to engage.”

News Corp. in Talks for Stake in Saudi Firm

DUBAI — News Corp. is in talks with Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal to take a stake in Rotana Media, marking its first major investment in the Middle East, according to people familiar with the deal.
News Corp. may buy a 20% interest …

Blogger Comments: I don’t know about you but I don’t trust Rupert Murdoch. The media is controlled, even Fox News. They tell you some of the truth not all. You get riled up and they big money. Fox News – Tails Tucked Between Their Legs

Saudi prince Al-Waleed bin Talal who is an investing tycoon and chairman of the Kingdom Holding Company said in an interview with Charlie Rose that he had about a 6-7% stake in News Corp

Al-waleed bin Talal is a major shareholder in News Corporation, the corporate parent of Fox News in the United States, Sky News in Europe, and many printed periodicals

The prince plunked down $146 million for the stake in Netscape, a Mountain View-based Internet browser company; $400 million for News Corp., a New York media company that owns the Fox TV network and the 20th Century Fox movie studio; and $300 million for shares in Motorola, an electronics giant in Schaumburg, Ill.

The prince said he was particularly attracted to News Corp. because “it is the only truly global media organization, with interests in nearly every country in the world.”

A News Corp. spokesman said Murdoch called Prince Al-Waleed “and thanked him for this new strategic alliance.” The investment makes Al-Waleed the largest individual shareholder outside of the Murdoch family.

Is this the reason Fox News is not reporting the News about Obama and the case before the Supreme Court. Is it because Prince Al Walled Bin Talal owns shares in News Corporation and now Fox’s loyalties are with Saudi Arabia not the American public who has supported them over the years. The buck stops here I guess and Americans will have to find another place to get their news. Fox is now the fluff liberal news media.

RIGHT WING VIEW: Saudi Billionaire Boasts of Manipulating Fox News Coverage

WASHINGTON—Accuracy in Media (AIM) is urging a full inquiry into a report that a Saudi billionaire caused the Fox News Channel (FNC) to dramatically alter its coverage of the Muslim riots in France after he called the network to complain. The Saudi billionaire, Al-waleed bin Talal, is a friend of News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch and controls an influential number of voting shares in the company. “This report underscores the danger of giving foreign interests a significant financial stake in U.S. media companies,” declared Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in Media. The controversial comments came at an Arab media conference featuring representatives of Time magazine, USA Today, PBS, The Wall Street Journal, and other news organizations. The conference and the Saudi Prince’s growing influence in News Corporation are among the subjects of a new December-A AIM Report that has just been posted at the AIM website (http://www.aim.org).

The report raises the specter of Arab money influencing News Corporation and other U.S. media companies. Liberal journalist Danny Schechter, a participant in the conference, reports that Al-waleed, who is a member of the Saudi Royal Family and investor in the Fox News parent company News Corporation, gave an interview boasting that he had called Fox to complain about coverage of the “Muslim riots” in France. He said he “called as a viewer” and “convinced them to change” the coverage because “they were not Muslim riots but riots against poverty and inequality.” And “they changed” the coverage, the Saudi reportedly said. Another report on the comments, carried by the Dubai-based newspaper the Khaleej Times, says that Al-waleed personally called Rupert Murdoch to complain. The Saudi said, “After a short while, there was a change” in the coverage. An AIM call to Fox News asking for comment was not returned. This is not the first time that Al-waleed has made controversial statements. His $10 million contribution to a 9/11 fund was rejected when he blamed the terror attacks on U.S. Middle East policy. Fifteen of the 19 terrorist hijackers on 9/11 came from Saudi Arabia.

DS COMMENTS: Right, but Al-waleed bin Talal happened to be right about Fox’s inflammatory miscoverage. When You Own A Big Stake At Any Media Outlet, You Get A BiG Say!

I LOVE JON

Larry Houghteling writes;
In case you ever wondered why Jon Stewart – a comedian! – is now the most respected newsman in American, you need wonder no longer.

Down below you will find a link to a 10+ minute videoclip in which Mr. Stewart talks about the “war” between the Obama admin and FOX news, which segues into a hilarious (and 100% percent accurate) description of what FOX news really is. You’ll need about 10 minutes, but you will laugh VERY hard and you will learn how we very smart people should ALWAYS put our facts together in order to make a coherent argument.

Plus, Stewart’s final segment, in which he takes on the Obama administration’s version of “fair and balanced,” is giddily perfect:

Good to be back. In town for the week and then off to Brussels for the European Journalism Center financial journalism conference and then a screening in Paris of my new film, PLUNDER THE CRIME OF OUR TIME on Nov 13. We are having a closed screening in New York on Tuesday. There may be some room. Write to me if you want to come and I will let you know. (Had two screenings in South Africa that went very well.)
