AIR AMERICA GOES RUMBA IN BOSTON

Clear Channel, which was running Air America on two local radio stations, was bought by Bank Capital. Other cities were also cancelled, and at least one (Madison, WI) has gotten theirs back. Both Boston stations, without any notice — one minute Air America, the next Rumba –were turned into primarily Spanish-language* 24-hour Rumba(!) stations.
Some listeners (those that could be reached) started a list-serve to try to reverse this. The first meeting is planned for Weds. eve. Dec. 27.

In Boston, there are already a host of primarily Spanish radio stations. We are aware that this is an important minority, but most of us don’t see a conflict, especially given that there are two stations involved, and they are apparently planning to increase the power of one in six months, and maybe drop the Rumba programming on the other.
