SEE THE UNEXPURGATED INTERVIEW
The unedited version of the interview on Fox…very different from what was aired. Watch the first one, and watch Wallace squirm… (This was originally available on YouTube, but Murdoch yanked it. He hasn’t gotten it from here, yet)
“You did Fox’s bidding on this show,” Clinton said to Wallace. “You people ask me questions you don’t ask the other side.”

I WANT MEDIA.COM: FOX LOVES USER GENERATED CONTENT
”Viral, user-generated media is king, declares Ross Levinsohn, the head of Fox Interactive Media, owner of the mammoth MySpace. The News Corp. division intends to overtake Yahoo, he adds. Also: “If Rupert Murdoch can give up control,” says Levinsohn, “I think anybody can give up control.”

FIGHT HATE CRIMES WITH MEDIA
My partner Rory O’Connor, who works with producer Patrice O’Neil of the Working group, passed her appeal on for publication in the blog.
“Below are details about a wonderful and still largely unreported media-related story about how a single program spawned a national Tolerance and anti-racism and hate crimes movement called “Not In Our Town.”
Details from our pal, Director/Producer Patrice O’Neill and the not-for-profit production team The Working Group. If you can help, please do.”
Patrice writes:
”We google hate crimes. Our research team is alerted when a hate crime is reported in the media. It is a disturbing task that reveals the ongoing and underlying hostilities over race, religion, immigration and sexual orientation that continue to surface in our country. Fortunately, we can also google a movement: Not In Our Town.

Ten years ago, The Working Group made a film about how people in Billings, MT resisted white supremacists’ attempts to gain a foothold in their community. We never could have predicted that a simple half hour story about a small Western town would spark a decade long campaign against hate violence Around the country.
We’ve been tracking and connecting a remarkable group of Not In Our Town activists over the years. They are the people who refuse to be silent when they know something is wrong. They are the “Upstanders” as Facing History Ourselves would call them - the people who don’t leave it to others but take action when their neighbors or their town is in trouble.
If you’re looking for hope, you should meet this group of one hundred people. After ten years we will finally bring them together on October 6-8 in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois for the first Not In our Town National Gathering. As Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world..”We’re hoping that a place called NORMAL is the launch pad for an energized movement against hate and intolerance in communities across the country. Please join us.”
Sponsors for the Gathering include: State Farm Insurance, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Public Welfare Foundation and Carnegie Corporation of New York. They need more immediate help right now to properly fund this work.

MEDIA GUARDIAN: CUTBACKS AT THE BEEB
BBC News is to axe 108 jobs by the end of March next year in a bid to save GBP 11m (EUR 16,4m) as part of director general Mark Thompson’s ‘value for money’ cost-cutting initiative.
The BBC revealed the extent of the cuts to reps of the unions Bectu, the National Union of Journalists and Amicus at a meeting Tuesday, telling them it was unable to rule out compulsory redundancies in the news division at this point. It is expected the BBC will spend the next month identifying posts that will be axed before it meets theunions again.
DAVID CORN DISSECTS CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS
Nation Columnist David Corn takes out his scalpel:
For more than two decades, I have seen Hitchens weave facts and assertions into stylistically brilliant copy as he attempts to intuit great truths. But when he comes to believe that he can outthink the facts, he ends up enwrapped in creative conspiratorial fantasies. This past February, I participated in a radio debate with him on whether the Bush administration had misguided the nation into war. Hitchens largely avoided the question at hand and instead argued the necessity of the invasion.
When he did address the issue of the absent WMDs in Iraq, he took a strange turn. “Doesn’t anything ever strike you as odd,” he said, “about the figure of zero for [WMD] deposits found in Iraq?…Isn’t it odd that none after all this? None? Doesn’t that suggest a crime scene that has been pretty well dusted in advance, the fingerprints wiped? Well, it does to me.” Read that quote carefully. It is revealing. Hitchens was saying that the fact that no weapons had been uncovered in Iraq (after nearly three years of searching) was evidence that there had been weapons. How can one argue with a person of such intellectual prowess that he can turn absence into presence by mere deduction? …

ON CHAVEZ AT THE UN
Michael Albert writes on ZNET
”My guess is that Chavez treated the event as he does pretty much all his encounters. He said what he thought. He gave it a passionate, aesthetic, and humorous edge. He calculated that forthrightness would accomplish more than it cost. Content-wise, the speech was typical Chavez, even if most hadn’t heard him saying such things before, due to having not heard him say anything before.
Here is Chavez commenting on Bush last March, for example, in a televised Venezuelan address: “You are an ignoramus, you are a burro, Mr. Danger … or to say it to you in my bad English, you are a donkey, Mr. Danger. You are a donkey, Mr. George W. Bush. You are a coward, a killer, a genocider, an alcoholic, a drunk, a liar, an immoral person, Mr. Danger. You are the worst, Mr. Danger. The worst of this planet.”
“The cost of Chavez’s more recent and far more global forthrightness about Bush is dismissal of Chavez as a crazy lunatic by many people who already felt that way but were restrained in saying so, and by some people swayed by media ridicule of him, who had had no prior opinion….
IS BUSH THE WORST PREZ IN HISTORY?
