Richard Wickline writes:

”I’d like to send you Bob Wickline’s intelligent, thought-provoking “You Don’t Stay the Course on a Horse that’s Going the Wrong Way” mp3 for your review and possible consideration as a theme song for your March 21st Media Day of War Coverage Protest.

“You Don’t Stay the Course on a Horse that’s Going the Wrong Way;” is one of the powerful to-the-point songs from Bob Wickline’s Don’t Stay the Course! CD. As well as the Iraqi War, Bob addresses education issues; “Now’s the Time to Put Children First” / “The Children Need Us,” the environment; “Let’s Take Our Heads Out of the Sand;” as well as America’s direction with “A Song for Lady Liberty!” (Thom Hartmann has been playing excerpts from “A Song for Lady Liberty” and “You Don’t Stay the Course” on his Air America Radio program.)”…

Sample Lyric:

We’ve been lied to and misled
into another senseless war.
How many thousands must lay dead
before we wake up from this nightmare
and revive the American Dream?
If we blindly “stay the course,”
this horse will drown US in the stream!!

From: “You Don’t Stay the Course on a Horse That’s Going the Wrong Way”

PLAN TO EXIT IRAQ

Howard Robberts seeks support for his plan to extricate the US from Iraq.

” The plan I am sending you has been approved by many prominent thinkers and activists in the field. Which includes: Benjamin Ferencz, Chief Prosecutor at the Nuremburg Trials, Tom Hayden, Matthew Rothschild, Reggie Rivers, Robert Jenkins, Andrew Bard Schmookler and others.

“I formulated this plan in September 2004, based on a comprehensive study of the issues. For my plan to be successful it must be implemented with all seven points beginning to happen within a very short period of time.”

COMMENTS ON MARTI-GRAS FROM NEW ORLEANS

Chris Rose writes in NOLA, the No’Orleans paper, The Times-Picayune:

”If you watch the news and read the papers in the Great Elsewhere, you will see Mardi Gras framed in simple, easy-to-grasp terms: It is rich people in Uptown drawing rooms, dressed in gilded capes and gowns that look like Liberace and waving scepters and wands at each other over the heads of their debutantes, the lily-white chosen few.

And then it is profoundly destitute black folks who are pushed to the margins of the celebration, left out, dismissed, forgotten and trod upon.

Never mind that the story line leaves out several hundred thousand of the rest of us.

It’s a journalistic device, and it works. National coverage of the flood has largely been played out to pit the rich white folks of Lakeview against the poor black folks of the Lower 9, never mind that the flood itself ignored such devices and claimed lives, property and peace of mind indiscriminately and equally across race, class and gender lines and across hundreds of square miles.

The failure of the Corps of Engineers was true democracy in action. Or would that be inaction?…

CARTOON PROTESTS IN MOZAMBIQUE

Fernando Lima sends in this report from Maputo, Mozambique:

Maputo, 26 (AIM) - More than a thousand Muslims marched in Maputo city on Saturday to protest against the publication of the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohamed by the independent weekly ” Savana” this month.

“The march, that started in the Maputo suburb of Alto Mae, ended in the Independent Square, in the city centre, where the demonstrators prayed for about three hours, while displaying banners of protest against the cartoons.”The publication of the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohamed by the independent weekly ” Savana” this month.”

IN THE COURTS

AP:

”Generals and politicians have been convicted of genocide, but the U.N.’s highest court will consider Monday whether a nation - in this case Serbia - can be guilty of humanity’s worst crime. The stakes potentially include billions of dollars and history’s judgment.”

People’s Weekly World:

”A three-judge Appeals Panel in Atlanta has granted a new trial to the five Cuban nationals imprisoned in a government frame-up seven years ago. The five — Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, and Rene Gonzalez — were operating in Miami as a part of a Cuban anti-terrorist operation when they were arrested, held in solitary for 17 months and then railroaded to jail by federal agents.

“While this is a major victory, it is not The Victory since the Cubans remain in high security confinement. The panel unanimously concluded that a fair trial was impossible in Miami, but the government will likely retry the Five in another venue. Until they are released, there must be no dampening of the public outrage at this politically motivated injustice.”

THAT TURKISH FILM

Adam McConnel writes from from Turkey with more on the Wolves Iraq film from the Turkish Daily News:

”Since the day it was first screened, the hit Turkish movie - Valley of the Wolves – Iraq has caused a political firestorm, especially in Germany, a country that takes a principled stand on free speech. I have difficulty in understanding reactions in Germany to “Valley of the Wolves — Iraq’, Professor Faruk, head of the German-based Center for Turkish Studies (TAM), told the Turkish Daily News. “Many American ‘Rambo’-type films have been shown in Germany. They were much worse and bloodier than this Turkish movie, but they were never discussed as much.”

“Apparently responding to a German politician’s attempts to censor the movie on grounds that it was anti-American and anti-Semitic, said: “This contradicts freedom of expression, freedom of the press and the German Constitution because moviegoers will decide whether a movie is good or bad. The state should not intervene.”

Robert Fisk on Rewriting History

”Everyone in the Middle East rewrites history, but never before have we had a US administration so wilfully, dishonestly and ruthlessly reinterpreting tragedy as success, defeat as victory, death as life - helped, I have to add, by the compliant American press. - We are pushing hundreds of thousands of Arabs though the butchers’ shops - and don’t even care.
