Brian Drolet writes:

”Check out the World Can’t Wait, Drive out the Bush Regime website, find out what’s going on ’round the country and here in NYC. Interestingly, Hot 97 refused to run the ad for tomorrow recorded by Boots Riley.

“In New York City: 12 noon Union Square. Then a permitted march up 8th Ave to Times square.

According to the organizers:

* 67 CITIES, 45 CAMPUSES, 90 HIGH SCHOOLS - RED STATE & BLUE: In the four months since the WCW call was issued, chapters have been formed in 53 cities, with demonstrations taking place in another 14; students at 43 colleges and universities will be participating; and there are 90 high schools where significant numbers of students will take part. The 34 states now covered are an equal mix of blue and red. Demonstrations are being held in the usual places: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, LA, Portland, Madison, Seattle, but also in Norfolk, Virginia; Burlington, Vermont; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Hood River, Oregon; Boone, North Carolina; Great Falls, Montana; and Springfield, Missouri. * KATRINA SURVIVORS WILL DEMONSTRATE IN NEW ORLEANS and they’re calling on those displaced from the Gulf to join actions in other cities. Miami organizers will hold a protest despite the recent hurricane; people in Franklin, NH will converge at a softball field; students at Roberto Clemente High in Chicago will walk out…

WAR CRIMES TRIBUNAL???

Lee Shilling writes:

” Why not get a public discussion started about which country should hold the war crimes trial? What should the charges be? Who should be charged?

Why not hold a contest with a one million dollar prize for the best succinct list of what else our country could get for the one billion a week spent on the war? (The million could be raised by having a bumper sticker that says something like WHAT ELSE? given to everyone who opposes the war send a dollar to the contest overseer.)

Why not have several contests with million dollar awards to the winner financed by $5.00 donations from anti-war individuals. (Who was Smedley Butler?, What is Mark Twain’s War Prayer about?, What are the top 5 most egregious crimes associated with the war?, etc. (I’m not really into money but think that’s one way to compete with the status quo.) If you made this a television event with the first week for the top 10, the next week for the top 5 and then the final winner of one contest in the 3rd week. Or, have a Jeopardy type program.

Good luck awakening the politically unawakened!

ENOUGH FOR NOW…..

Ok, I have to take a break now. I can’t keep up with the torrent of letters and transferring them into the blog takes time. I have been at it for nearly two hours and my fingers hurt.

Clearly, if you read all of these letters you can see how this issue and concern resonates. We can make this a bigger issue and need to. We will have some concrete suggestions next week on next steps. We are hoping that a planned new and better funded SHOW US THE WAR campaign with many media and political participants takes off asap, and we intend to join it. Stay tuned.

HELP US NOW

There is a way you can help right no. I am sure you’ve heard that many funders experience “fatigue.” If this work is to continue, we need your help to get the word out. If everyone of you could come up with $50 or more, that would help keep us going. Tax deductible donations can be be made by check to The Global Center (Mark Mediachannel.org in the lower left corner.) Send to us at 575 8th Avenue, New York, New York l0018 #2200.You can also donate with a credit card via Pen Pal.

Keep your letters coming….Please forward the blog to friends

Recent Comments

Game Over. I have reluctantly disabled the comments on my blog because a small number of self-indulgent spammers and neer do wells with nothing to say about any of the issues I raise or report on, have stepped up the volume of their sniping and SPA's--Stupid personal attacks. I am sure readers find them as offensive and adolescent as I do. All hide behind anonymous emails and never really want replies or a dialogue. Snarky is one thing; insults another.

Your comments are welcome and I am happy to post them in the blog. Share comments, questions and criticisms by emailing me here.

    Thank you for understanding.

"Curtailment of free speech is rationalized on grounds that a more compelling American tradition forbids criticism of the government when the nation is at war...Nothing can be more destructive of our fundamental democratic traditions than the vicious effort to silence dissenters."
