Your Letters and WMD Developments

Ghali Hassan writes: “Good dissecting, but I wouldn’t use the kind of rubbish provided by ‘Littegreenfootballs’ and the corrupt ‘Michelle Malkin’.

They are F.. fascist and you are giving them credibility. You also allow access to their sites through yours. Concentrate on the big fish.”

Beverly McCartt writes:

“No you don’t say she was targeted — she says she was targeted. And you’re correct, this is not a unique incident — which makes it all the more likely that she wasn’t targeted. The basic questions, for me, revolves more around the checkpoints itself — what sort of orders are the soldiers given? What type of training are they receiving for this type of work? Is it reasonable to expect soldiers to be able to differentiate between a speeding car of insurgents or a speeding car of innocent civilians? On what side of the equation should they err?

The question in my mind being raised is this: why are they shooting first and asking questions later? If the soldiers are acting on the (probably well-founded) belief that these vehicles pose imminent danger to them, why aren’t other measures being taken to slow down the vehicle prior to reaching the checkpoint itself -

All I am asking is that you maintain your objectivity and most of all, your integrity in this matter. You are one of few trusted voices in this whole media debacle.”

DS NOTE: Objectivity demands seeking all points of view.

Mike Corbeil writes:

” Where I stated that I found one thing a little regrettable in all of what Ms Sgrena has said over the past month or so, about honest journalists or correspondents needing to stay out of Iraq, this was not meant in a moralizing way; having absolutely no such intention. She did great work and was/is very courageous. My statement was only meant in the sense that We, Humanity [needs] to know the truth about wars; while locally, at least people of the locality need to know the truth about all violent crimes, really. We need to know, realize and act upon Truth in rather all matters that have significance.

Robert Pohelmus comments on the coverage:

“Giuliana Shooting — hey a lot of soldiers pretend they are cowboys Including the most ridiculous creep ever to don military uniform General McCaffrey the so called expert on Military Affairs that MSNBC uses. Within an hour of the shooting of Giuliana there he was again being queried as to why in the devil Berlusconi would call the US AMBASSADOR to his palace. McCaffrey replied he did not know why such a nasty thing should happen to a US AMBASSADOR.
“I called MSNBC and was put through to their comments line. My comment? Listen, IF YOU ARE PAYING McCAFFREY ALL THIS MONEY FOR HIS EXPERTISE hire a real expert-me! It was obvious that the great majority against our undeclared war on Iraq would be very very uptight indeed about US COWBOYS shooting at will against Italians.

Clements-Viol writes about the website My pet Jawa: “What a sick little site that one is!”

COUNTER THE IMAGE

Jennifer Walford comments:

“I was wondering is there anyway for independent media outfits to counter the ‘mainstream media’s’ portrayal of Americans abroad?

“Many people outside the US are force fed an image of America (the same way we are force fed images about them) that is disgusting! Is there anyway media outfits such as yourself can feed alternative views to local papers and television outlets abroad?

“Not only would this provide a balanced view of Americans and their politics, but provide fodder for those who can call the US on it’s own failures at home and abroad? Just a thought.”

ON HUNTER S

Scott Bailey:

“I’m sure you are aware that there are too many unanswered questions surrounding HST’s death. He believed that it wasn’t planes that caused the collapse of WTC but it was pre-placed munitions http://www.libertythink.com/HST911insidejob.rm . This is provable beyond a shadow of a doubt. Also, he was working on a story about the homosexual underground in Washington http://www.total411.info/RobertsJones050303.rm which may have included the male prostitute — Jeff Gannon/aka - Guckert which implicated George Bush. Also, here’s the link to the Post’s article on HST today if you haven’t seen it. http://www.nypost.com/seven/03042005/gossip/pagesix.htm

“I enjoy very much your reporting and news analysis. You are a breath of fresh air in this age of suppression and spin. Thanks for you contributions and integrity. Keep up the good work!”

Game Over. I have reluctantly disabled the comments on my blog because a small number of self-indulgent spammers and neer do wells with nothing to say about any of the issues I raise or report on, have stepped up the volume of their sniping and SPA's--Stupid personal attacks. I am sure readers find them as offensive and adolescent as I do. All hide behind anonymous emails and never really want replies or a dialogue. Snarky is one thing; insults another.

Your comments are welcome and I am happy to post them in the blog. Share comments, questions and criticisms by emailing me here.

    Thank you for understanding.

"Curtailment of free speech is rationalized on grounds that a more compelling American tradition forbids criticism of the government when the nation is at war...Nothing can be more destructive of our fundamental democratic traditions than the vicious effort to silence dissenters."
