In the Media World

AP reports: “Liberal talk radio shows are beginning to find a place in American broadcasting after years of dominance by Rush Limbaugh and his conservative cohorts.

“Despite the fresh infusion of high-profile names into market — including Jerry Springer, whose program started last week on WCKY-AM — no liberal talk show host can yet claim the clout of Limbaugh, whose show is heard on nearly 600 stations and reaches an audience of about 20 million each week.

“There are 1,316 news-talk radio stations, compared with 1,197 a decade earlier and 360 at the end of 1990, according to Inside Radio. Only the country music format, on 2,019 stations, is more prevalent…”

FROM EBAY: TALK SHOW HOST FOR SALE

“Hey—Where’s MY gravy?”

“That’s my question after finding out my fellow conservatives like Armstrong Williams and Maggie Gallagher are on the “cash for commentary ” bandwagon. Why not me?

“Since the Bush Administration hasn’t called (yet), I’m dropping a not-so-subtle hint that I, too, have bills to pay. I’m making my services as a talk host, writer and pundit available quickly and easily right here on eBay. And, because I’m a true conservative capitalist, my services are available to the highest bidder.”

TWO NEWSPAPERS—WHAT FACT GETS LEFT OUT?

From Democratic Underground:

“Yesterday’s New York Post ran a story about the police arresting people in a rather odious child pornography ring. Included in the Post story is a reference to “Jeffrey Patti, a 36-year-old lawyer” who was one of the people arrested.

“For comparison however, let’s look at how the Newark Star-Ledger covered the same story:

“Defense attorney Jeffrey Patti, 36, of Sparta, who is married with two daughters, ages 2 and 6 months, is well-known in Sussex County, where news of the arrest stunned acquaintances. Patti and his father, Frank, are partners in a Sparta law firm, and he also serves as the municipal chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee.”

NOT SEEN ON TV NEWS

Rep. Ron Paul, MD: “Our ill-advised presence in the Middle East and our decade-long bombing of Iraq served only to incite the suicidal attacks of 9/11. ”

Game Over. I have reluctantly disabled the comments on my blog because a small number of self-indulgent spammers and neer do wells with nothing to say about any of the issues I raise or report on, have stepped up the volume of their sniping and SPA's--Stupid personal attacks. I am sure readers find them as offensive and adolescent as I do. All hide behind anonymous emails and never really want replies or a dialogue. Snarky is one thing; insults another.

Your comments are welcome and I am happy to post them in the blog. Share comments, questions and criticisms by emailing me here.

"Curtailment of free speech is rationalized on grounds that a more compelling American tradition forbids criticism of the government when the nation is at war...Nothing can be more destructive of our fundamental democratic traditions than the vicious effort to silence dissenters."
