In Florence, thanks to the efforts of a new friend, the novelist DiegoManca, a proud Sardinian and Falun Gong practitioner, I was invited to show my new film based on my book Falun Gong’s Challenge to China (www.globalvision.org). It went well until I realized once again that not everyone outside the US speaks English well enough to understand it. So we had to stop in the middle to keep the audience awake. It’s a lesson that we English speakers can’t forget. I won’t forget driving with Diego and discovering that we both have a mutual passion: the sounds of Otis Redding. For a few brief moments, the two of us, he with his accent and I with mine, were badly singing along to the Dock of the Bay. Otis died for our sins (Incidentally, inspired by our work, Diego has written to all Italian papers seeking better coverage of Falun Gong and also, with my knowledge, translated two of my columns on the subject into Italian. You can read them on line here.
