WE ARE FAMILY CONTROVERSY

The We Are Family Foundation which I servcd with the movie WE ARE FAMILY, a post-911 call for tolerance, has been attacked by the right-wing American Family Foundation for promoting homosexuality. After protests and explanations by founder-musisian Nile Rogers, they have reversed themselves in part. Foundation Director Nancy Hunt explains:

“First, the American Family Association has created a new statement regarding WAFF on their website (www.afa.net). It states the following:

“Tupelo, MS – American Family Association spokesperson Ed Vitagliano issued the following statement today regarding We Are Family Foundation (WAFF): “The DVD music video ‘We Are Family,’ which will be sent to 61,000 elementary schools across the nation, carries a positive message of tolerance and respect for differences.

“While they have retracted part of their attack, the statement does go on to state that our WAFF’s website does promote homosexuality and that parents and teachers should be cautious about the “teacher’s guide” that accompanies our video as it may also do the same since it was developed by the Anti-Defamation League, an organization that promotes homosexuality. Obviously I am paraphrasing here, but feel free to read the entire statement on their site.

“The New York Times ran a wonderful ‘Editorial’ yesterday and Maureen Dowd wrote a great Op-Ed piece in today’s (Sunday’s) paper. MSNBC.com also wrote a fabulous piece. Here are the links:

OFF TO PARK CITY

This is the week of the Sundance Film Festival and the Freedom Cinema Festival will also be in Park City Utah. The latter will be honoring me with a retrospective and trubute…. January 27

This the week when the elite meets in Davos for the World Economic Forum and World Social Forum returns to Porto Alegre in Brazil where 120,000 are expected for the World Social Forum. Sadly I can’t be everywhere at once. Right now many of our efforts are going into promoting the NY Screening of WMD Weapons of Mass Deception at the Village East theater on February 4th.
